Home Machines Rider's Profiles Tracks Artefacts WSRA Museum Books Links & Much More

Something that has always puzzled me about speedway spectators is their apparent enjoyment of a crash (track accident). Not suggesting there is any lack of respect there is a hush after the initial gasp and a worried silence whilst the medical staff deal with the injured, applause if the rider rises and even when an ambulance leaves the track.

However it seems this macabre interest is not restricted to spectators in the UK because John Hyam has recently sent me items taken from a publication circa 1937 published in the USA. It would seem this is a not an interest that is restricted to the UK but I am still puzzled as to why.
